The Fashionarium x BestWatch.ru

Aurora Fashion Week Russia Spring/Summer'2014, Leonid Alexeev

Anyways!

What can I say, nothing will go smoothly if I have a Leonid Alexeev fashion show scheduled for the evening. Last season I almost missed it due to the flaws in the system of registration of the invitations, and in the end I had to watch the whole show sitting on my haunches because a random photographer told me that I'm disturbing his recording process. You can imagine how loooovely it is to sit on your haunches if you're wearing a dress and a pair of high heels. This time even though my friend and I we allocated seats we had to watch the show from the photographers' area again - thank you Aurora Fashion Week Russia for giving me a chance to work on my leg muscles while watching the show standing on my tiptoes.

Anyways! The show itself was spectacular and I really loved the collection. Live music matched the magnificent ceilings and the shiny parquet perfectly. The show started with the appearance of five girls with their hair poetically pulled back in a hairdo that imitated a short haircut. They were wearing simple-not-so-simple little beige dresses decorated with contrasting stripes and fancy silver cones. Next chapter was dedicated to the fringe, and this is when when the audience saw those fascinating lampshade hats. It was extremely funny to watch the guests in the end of the show when the mustard dresses with dramatic black feathers and the elegant bicolor strapless gown were presented - all of a sudden, everyone started taking pictures with their iPhones, iPads and SLR cameras.

Helsinki October 2013

St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the whole wide world, no doubts, but it's physically uncomfortable to stay here for a long time. There comes a moment when you realise you're in this tiny gray box, and all your thoughts are now focused on travelling - it doesn't matter where or for how long, you just want to get away from the city. In this case a trip to Helsinki is just what the doctor order, especially since Finland is just a few hours away from St. Petersburg.

'Hel' (this is how some residents of St. Petersburg affectionately call this city) really is a wonderful place to visit. Here you have cozy pedestrian zones, parks covered with golden leaves, charming trams, snow-white cathedral, roaring Hard Rock Cafe and a huuuuuuuge department store called Stockmann - a great place to spend all the money you have. There are a lot of stylish young people (dressed accordingly to their own 'Scandinavian' fashion), flawlessly looking men and women, neatly dressed pensioners with their well-groomed and well-fed dogs. You can see elderly women discussing something with friendly girls working at the checkout of the department of sporting goods - and it seems like nobody even cares that there are people waiting in line.

It was my seventh time in Helsinki, and I finally fell in love with the city.

Gorky Park In Moscow

The trees have now all turned yellow, yet I'm here to tell about what happened in August - when citizens were recovering from the stuffiness of a big city in green-green parks, where they could ride bicycles and savor candy-floss and sweet corn. Back then, in the beginning of the last summer month I had a chance to visit Gorky Park - the photos I took there are actually the only ones I managed to take with my SLR camera during the trip to Moscow, this is how busy I was there, hehe.

To be honest, I don't quite understand why some residents of the capital don't like 'Gorky Central Park of Culture & Leisure' that much - I guess it's just cause when everyone likes something, there's always got to be this someone who dislikes it purely because he/she is that insanely stubborn. How can you not like a park? What kind of expectations do you need to have to dislike a park?

Anyways, I found Gorky Park very-very nice: here you have cafes, open-air cinema, bike & roller skates rentals, shady alleys, a lovely embankment with a huge plane in the middle of it (still don't get what's the purpose of it though), and even a charming little pond where you can ride on a catamaran. There are also these awesome huuuuuuuuuuge bouncy pillows - but seems like you need to queue to have a chance to lie on them lol.

It's funny how these days tourists sometimes know more about Gorky Park than some residents of the city. For example, I met a girl who could show you around easily, but she knew nothing about all the renovations that were made in this park and still thought it's full of attractions that are only fun as long as you are under 15. At the same time, Jamaica national athletics team was well aware of how wonderful this park is - they even had their own party here, and famous sprinter Usain Bolt was the DJ that night.

PS Anyways! Happy Birthday to me ;)

Top Girls Of The Season: Chiharu, Diana, Malaika

Upcoming Events: Andreeva Spring/Summer'2014 Fashion Show

Today I've had my hair cut perfectly in a marvelous place called "Cut Point", my mom is celebrating her birthday tomorrow, and already this Friday I'll be the one to receive gifts - furthermore, it seems like this weekend we'll finally have a chance to go on a little trip. All in all, life is beautiful and though the weather is incredibly warm for October, I have this feeling inside that something magical is about to happen - just like in December.

However it's still autumn, and Aurora Fashion Week Russia is about to start. This time a new spring/summer collection of the Ukrainian brand Andreeva will be presented during AFWR, and I can't wait for the 20th of October!

Which events are you most excited about this autumn?

Opening Of The 'Fluo People' Exhibition

Last week I had a pleasure to attend the opening of a wonderful exhibition called "Fluo People". This exhibition was dedicated to the artwork of Alexander Roshchin, who is a young artist and an illustrator. The exhibition took place in a cozy restaurant "Side" which is located on the Petrogradskaya side of the city. Guests were greeted with vegetable appetizers and miniature desserts, but the most interesting things were on the walls, not in the plates.

Walls of the restaurant were decorated with the works of Alexander Roshchin, who turned out to be not only talented, but also very friendly and a tiny bit shy. He's now teaching fashion illustration in Miroedova School, so naturally there was a small master class scheduled for the evening. Unfortunately, we couldn't see much (damn you, flats!), but thankfully we could still hear everything Alexander was saying while drawing. Turned out, he's inspired by the works of famous photographers (those who not only shoot fashion, but create real pieces of art), music and different, sometimes quite unexpected textures.

Miranda Kerr by Nick Knight for Swarowski (Fall 2013 Campaign)

Charming Australian model Miranda Kerr became the face of Swarovski new campaign shot by British photographer Nick Knight. He pictured Miranda who's wearing one of the most popular Swarovski pieces among beautiful garden roses which were cut in the English countryside. Chic, isn't it?

The campaign also includes a TV commercial which features a soundtrack composed and performed by now-again-oh-so-popular Pharrell Williams. Unfortunately, this video is only going to be shown in Italy, France and Hong Kong - but thanks to the power of the Internet you can watch it right here and right now! So go ahead, what are you waiting for? ;)

Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer'2014: Visual Summary

Now that's a wrap!

There's no time to rest during Paris Fashion Week - each day is marked with 2-3 highly anticipated shows. When you're browsing through the photos from PFW it's easy to be fooled by the outward simplicity of the garments - you definitely need to zoom to appreciate textures, details and hard work hidden behind the flawless shapes. And you also need to keep in mind that it will take a looooot of time to go through the photos from PFW, because the number of outfits very often exceeds 40-50.

Karl Lagerfeld keeps his finger on the pulse of time (as usual), Balenciaga's Alexander Wang silences the doubters, Phoebe Philo surprises the audience with a riot of colours, Raf Simons wins girls' hearts with cascade necklaces and sophisticated silhouettes, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli are simply showing wonders - in short, everything is great in the fashion kingdom. Now that's a wrap!
